Holmberg has set itself the goal, among other things, of ensuring that electronic devices placed on the market become increasingly environmentally friendly throughout the entire product cycle.

Through EU-wide registration under Directive (2012/19/EU) on waste electrical and electronic equipment, Holmberg supports the establishment of take-back systems and recycling infrastructures for consumers, preventing e-waste from being illegally disposed of in nature or in landfills in developing countries.

In doing so, we contribute to a functioning circular economy system. By recycling waste electrical and electronic equipment, resources of rare earths, minerals, and metals are conserved.

What do I need to consider?

Old devices do not belong in household waste

Waste electrical and electronic equipment contains valuable resources that can be recovered and reused in recycling processes.

E-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams in the world. E-waste can contain potentially harmful substances such as mercury, cadmium, or lead. Improper treatment of e-waste can have negative impacts on the environment and human health.

Therefore, safe disposal and recycling are of crucial importance to minimize these potential negative effects. Furthermore, recycling e-waste recovers valuable materials that can be used in the manufacture of new products.

The European Directive (2012/19/EU) regulates the collection, treatment, and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment.

The WEEE Symbol

The “crossed-out wheeled bin” on your electrical and electronic equipment therefore indicates that old devices must not be disposed of with household waste, but must be collected separately.

The separate collection of old devices is necessary for the environmentally sound disposal of pollutants, the recovery of recyclable materials, and the possibility of reuse.

Caution with batteries and rechargeable batteries

Some of our devices also contain lithium-ion batteries, which must be disposed of separately. Batteries and rechargeable batteries that are not permanently installed in devices should be removed for safety reasons before handing in the old device and disposed of separately. For lithium batteries, please tape over the battery poles to avoid short circuits.

As a consumer, you are obliged to collect waste electrical and electronic equipment as well as batteries and rechargeable batteries separately and to hand them in at an approved collection or take-back point, for example at the local recycling center.

Holmberg is also obliged to take back old electrical equipment according to §7a of the ElektroG (German Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act).

We therefore also offer our customers the return of used old devices, which are passed on by Holmberg to a specialist disposal company for professional disposal.
